Youth art schools in Hesse

Youth art schools are extracurricular cultural education institutions specifically for children and young people. There are approximately 400 of these youth education institutions in Germany. Following the motto "Many arts under one roof," they offer courses, projects, and open programs in various art forms.

Hesse is also diverse and creative. From the big cities to the small communities, from north to south, from west to east, there are a number of youth art schools and cultural education

Facilities and projects.

Three of these extracurricular learning centers joined forces 30 years ago with the goal of developing and implementing common standards in art education.

Meanwhile, 11 youth art schools and cultural education institutions are organized in the state association:

Art piece – Bad Nauheim Youth Art School, Bad Vilbel Art Association, Büdingen Music and Art School, Fulda Children’s Academy, Falkenheim Gallus Youth Culture Workshop in Frankfurt am Main, Hanau City Youth Art School, Art Workshop in Königstein, KunstWerkStatt Marburg, Offenbach am Main Youth Art School, The Art Suitcases Are Coming, Wiesbaden and the Wiesbaden Artists.

Offer

As extracurricular providers of children's and youth education, youth art schools and cultural education institutions offer children, adolescents, and young adults space for their creativity and thereby support their personal development. These offerings, in the form of courses, workshops, and projects in various artistic disciplines, are open to all interested parties, regardless of social class, and are thus an essential component of a vibrant and comprehensive educational landscape. This ensures that the young members of our society are in constant exchange across school types and neighborhoods.

This can be in the context of a cooperation with a daycare center or school, in an art course, a weekend workshop, at a reading or a theater performance, at a street action or at a district festival.

Collaborative artistic creation opens up communication opportunities that transcend the everyday. Free from conventional assessment criteria and within workshops and experimental spaces, participants can discover their own creative abilities, develop their skills, and communicate with others. This not only creates a great deal of fun and enjoyment in the process, but also teaches important key skills that can be transferred to other areas of life: self-confidence, creativity, perseverance, courage, flexibility, and team spirit.

The children and young people are supported by qualified art and cultural education specialists, freelance artists and young people who are involved in these institutions as part of a voluntary service, often against the background of their own positive experiences in this environment.

Anniversary brochure

To mark this anniversary, a brochure has been designed and is now available at the participating institutions. It provides detailed presentations of all the institutions. This brochure was generously funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts.

According to the Federal Association of Youth Art Schools and Cultural Education Institutions, half a million young people across Germany take advantage of these offerings every year and spend their free time with visual arts, dance, theater, photography, music, literature, film, video and new media.
