Les Cordes
Chamber Orchestra of the MuKS
Line:
Simon Ullmann

The string orchestra of the Büdingen Music and Art School, Les Cordes, will play a concert on September 14 at 5 p.m. in the Oberhof horse stable. They will perform Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Symphony for Strings, Wq 182/5. This work is one of the so-called Hamburg Symphonies, which Bach wrote on commission from Baron van Swieten and were presumably performed at his Viennese aristocratic concerts and academies. Bach was instructed "to let himself go completely in composing it (...), without taking any consideration of any difficulties regarding the execution." In 1825 – 200 years ago – Johann Strauss Jr. was born, reason enough for the musicians of Les Cordes to take a look at works such as Wein, Weib und Gesang (Wine, Women and Song), Op. 333, and the Annen Polka, Op. 117. Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings is one of his first works to achieve wider distribution. This work, which Elgar declared to be his favorite piece at the end of his life, concludes the concert.
Admission is free, but donations to support the ensemble work of the Büdingen Music and Art School are welcome.
